However, I find little reason to play such pacifist roles in a game that thrives on its combat system and badass epic battles. When I say there is a lot of depth and freedom in this game, I mean you could essentially play as a merchant or diplomat without having to resort to violence/fighting. Some even call it a medieval warfare simulator because the combat is that intricate and interesting. To briefly describe what Mount & Blade: Warband is: it's a mixture of Medieval Total War, except it's in the third or first person perspective and includes many cool RPG elements. Additionally, the combat is really interesting and immersive. The amount of depth and freedom you have in the single player campaign is kind of great and keeps the replayability up there. And now after playing it for about a week, I can say it's awesome. My first impression of this game when I first looked at it was "it looks like shit" but I gave it a chance because I heard it was really good. Mount & Blade: Warband is a standalone "expansion." It does not require the original Mount & Blade to be played.
